About this site

I built Printable Graph Paper because every time I needed a sheet of grid paper, I'd end up on a page that either generated something subtly wrong or asked me to set five sliders I didn't know the right values for. So I made the version I wanted instead: a small library of templates that print correctly the first time, with the line weights, spacings, and accents already calibrated to match real-world paper.

Why pre-made instead of customizable

Most generators give you control over everything: cell size, line weight, accent spacing, dot diameter, margin. That sounds like flexibility, but in practice it just shifts the work to you. What's the right line weight for a 5 mm grid that will be photocopied? What dot diameter doesn't disappear under a 0.5 mm pen? These are real questions with non-obvious answers, and getting them wrong produces paper that looks slightly off without you being able to point at why.

Every template here is named after a specific paper that already exists in the world. The 5 mm grid is the European school standard. Engineering paper is 10 squares per inch with a bold accent every fifth line. Genkō yōshi is 10 × 20 cells. I matched those specifications and the line weights that make each one look the way it should, so the output reads as a clean version of the paper it claims to be.

How the templates are built

The files are rendered as SVG at the exact physical dimensions of the target paper, measured in millimeters. When your browser prints them at 100% scale, a 5 mm cell on the page is actually 5 mm wide. The download button bypasses the print dialog entirely and writes a vector PDF directly, which is the safer route if your printer driver likes to silently rescale things.

Line weights are picked to survive a normal office printer at default settings. Faint lines are calibrated to disappear cleanly under handwriting; dark lines are calibrated to register after a round of photocopying. Most templates default to whichever line colour suits the task, and you can change it before printing if your situation needs something different.

What it costs

Nothing. There's no signup, no watermarks, no premium tier. Use the templates for personal study, classroom handouts, engineering sketches, hobby projects, commercial work, anything you want. The terms spell out the details.
